Punta del Este, Uruguay, is one of the most frivolous summer destinations in Latin America. Its million dollar mansion studded neighborhoods and lavish yachts make it a haven for the rich and famous. Located near the golf club is the Barrio Kennedy, a shanty town housing many of the cities servants, hotel employees and caddies. After a decade-long struggle against local authorities, community groups have managed to establish a new housing project which has as its main aim the dismantlement of illegal settlements such as this one.
